"All is not well in rural America. Stress and distress are much in evidence. Superficial obeservation in the plains of the [Midwest] provides evidence of the decline of communities and the fight of younger, better-educated residents, and if one visits the rural South, persistent rural poverty is noticeable. Stress can be observed in the management of the natural environment, as conflict often exists between the "users" of natural resources--farmers and foresters, for example--and the people who are mainly interested in the natural amenities." 1

This stress doesn't have to exist. The way that we are raping the land is only manifistation of our inner struggle between the need for personal space, in other words preserving the natural habitat and the need to fit into society by gaining power and wealth. We as a socitey do not use all of the resources at hand to their full potential. In this carelesness, we waste them. In order to find our full potential, we need to learn to give all that we have in exchange for all that we can get, instead of just taking everything we can get our hands on.

I believe the rural and small town society is where we can start this revolution.  The inhabitants better realize that they rely on the land to survive. They can only take so much away from it before it starts to not give back.  They rely on eachother to accomplish goals and make it through hard times. It is the good from this society I want to incorperate into the good of the technological age to mold the community I want to live in.

The problem with having ideas and goals is that some where along the line, I have to realize that is goal is too ambitious for me to realize on my own. In order to create a community, I need to have a group of similar minded people who will suport and help me.  So, the first step towards achieving my goal is to ask for help. I need a variety of resources from a variety of people. I am asking for volunteer help towards this goal to prove that this idea will work. I am asking for the following list of things, in no particular order because each depends on others and the whole would not be complete without all of them.

Computer Programs

I'm approaching the open source community for help to write a variety of programs.  This community has proven that utilizing each individual to their full potential is how quality work is done to best benefit the whole.

Tax Laws

Here is the tricky part. I want to have a set of property taxes that are on a curved scale, not a step-wise scale. I want to have many factors in the process of assigning taxes. The most important being the ecological impact they have (i.e. factories would be taxed more severely than a properly managed pasture) and the ways that they are replenishing our resources.

Technological Advances

The main goal of this community will be to best utilize the resources at hand. The secondary goal will be to find ways to make what we have at hand better at using them. Instead of just using what we have, we will generate ideas on alternative ways to do the every day things. Alternate fuels for cars, better ways of communication, and finding a use for everything the second time around are just a few ideas I would like to see implimented.

Trust Laws

I want to ensure the members that the life they lead will be preserved for their children. I want to make sure that the larger metropolitan areas don't take over and forcefuly annex this community. I have heard rumors about the cattle ranchers in Colorado placing their property into a trust to lower their property taxes and keep developers out of their hair. If any one has more information on this, I would love to hear about it

Ideas sent to me

Well, for this idea to work, I have decided that we will have to have some sort of open source type arangement. You send me your ideas and ways to impliment my ideas (spelling  and gramatical errors are appreciated just as much). I will post the ideas, leaving names off unless told otherwise, and add the contributor to the list of contributors. I will keep them seperated through the four subcatergorys above, and ideas on the community, accessed through the link above. Click on the title and you will find them and my comments to them there. If a comment relates to more than one area, then I will post it in its entirety on a seperate page with the pertinant parts under each category.
